High Power High Speed PM-Assisted SynRel Machines with

High power and high speed PM-SynRel machine with rare earth and ferrite magnets are designed and compared based on the requirements for a future electric commercial vehicles. The ratio of stack length, mass of magnet, total mass and inertia of rare earth machine in comparison to ferrite PM-SynRel is found to be 0.72, 0.42, 0.72 and 0.32, respectively.

Eliminating rare earth permanent magnets on low‐speed

However, concerns regarding rare‐earth scarcity, price fluctuations, supply shortage, environmental and social impact have increased the interest in other technologies. Among them, the synchronous reluctance machine (SynRM) and the ferrite permanent magnet‐assisted synchronous reluctance machine (PMa‐SynRM) arise as promising alternatives.

rare earth Archives Advanced Electric Machines

However, recognising the large volumes of permanent magnets used in applications from hard disk drives to wind turbines, Advanced Electric Machines is working with partners at Bentley Motors, Hypromag, Intelligent Lifecycle Solutions, Unipart, and the University of Birmingham to recycle the millions of tonnes of rare earth magnets that have already been disposed of.

Electric vehicle traction motors without rare earth magnets

2015. 4. 1. Rare earth magnets (along with other types of permanent magnet) are always ‘on’, whether the electrical machine where they are used is operational or not. This means that when a rare earth magnet (or other magnet based motor) is rotating, even with no electrical current applied, magnetic flux will still be present within the machine.

Performance comparison between switching-flux and IPM

Switching Flux Permanent Magnet machines compared with Interior Permanent Magnet machines are presented to be interesting solutions in terms of torque per volume density, compactness, active material layout and cooling capability. The flux linkage results to be bi-directional and voltage is almost sinusoidal. These machines are then interesting for AC drives and field weakening operation.

Rare-earth-free propulsion motors for electric vehicles: A

2016. 5. 1. Nowadays, rare-earth IPMSMs are possibly the most used machines in EVs since the use of rare-earth magnets allows lighter motors with enhanced torque and power densities, higher efficiency and suitability for sensorless control because of its rotor saliency .
